
Our Story
The Start
It was a quiet evening in Sangli in 2025, when the team members at Samvedana Foundation were sitting together at our Gaushala, reflecting on their work with the community. The cows were returning after grazing, and their calm presence reminded us of the timeless bond between humans and these sacred animals.
Yet, amidst this peace, we were confronted with a truth: while India worships the cow as “Gaumata”, in reality, many cows are abandoned, uncared for, and their gifts—milk, dung, and urine—are often overlooked or misused.
Something had to be done. We asked ourselves:
Could the cow once again be placed at the centre of a healthier, more sustainable way of living? That thought sowed the seed of Gaumaya.
The Idea
The idea of building a brand around cow-based products was met with hesitation. Many dismissed it as “old-fashioned” or “impractical”. When we spoke of hand-churned bilona ghee or eco-friendly cow dung dhoop, people were sceptical. Why pay for purity when cheap, industrial substitutes flood the market?
But we knew the value of what we had. With patience, research, and faith in our mission, we began small. Every litre of ghee was crafted with care, every stick of dhoop was handmade by rural families, and every rupee earned was reinvested into the Gaushala and community projects.
Slowly, our idea grew. What started as a way to care for our cows became a movement to preserve tradition, support farmers, empower women, and bring wellness into homes across India.
Present and Future
Gaumaya is a young and growing brand built on purity and purpose. From A2 bilona ghee to cow dung dhoop, we’re bringing India’s traditions to modern homes.
